Good point Michael...not sure it is actually ever much of a strategy for anything, except continued problems and challenges...which some seem to enjoy attracting to themselves.

Dear Annoyed,

Please accept my apologies for offending you on Facebook. My personal approach to social media is to look for people who seem to have similar interests and send request to those who are sharing interesting information that I feel I can learn from...sort of like sitting down at a table at a conference where the conversation seems interesting to me. I may not know all of the people, and we may not even speak directly, but I often learn a great deal from listening to what they have to say. If I sent a friend request to you it is because after reviewing your info and your wall, I was interested in learning from the information you share. As for my personal messages being turned off, that is news to me, as every day I get several messages from people with whom I interact on Facebook.

I guess where I see the difference between lying and indirectness is that on Facebook anyone I invite to connect can easily check out my wall and see the kinds of info that I post to decide if they want to connect...and unlike the people referenced in the post, I don't push sales offers, I don't send personal messages saying please check out my great offer, and I don't lie about what I am doing--which is sharing information that I believe has value to those with whom I am connected, and learning from the information that they share.

Not much of a political strategy, either. Just ask Anthony Weiner—the guy The NY Post is calling "The Dork Knight".

Michael,
What's the difference between lying and indirectness? You friended me on Facebook, with zero personal greetings as to why, and have your settings so that you cannot receive personal messages. So it appears that you are solely interested in selling your services to me, even though a simple add on Facebook might be interpreted as "This is not a sales call."

You think I am that stupid?
